Amira Hartmann, born in Essen in 1996, studied communication design in the master’s program with a focus on photography and journalism at the Peter Behrens School of Arts, Düsseldorf, which she completed in early February 2023.
In her work she deals with socio-cultural and socio-political issues of urban space and its communities. With her photographs she pursues documentary as well as artistic and poetic aspirations. As part of her projects, she works in different cities, which allows her to critically compare urban and social conditions and the subcultural movements she deals with in many of her projects.
Her work has been featured in group exhibitions, including Duesseldorf Photo 2018 and Duesseldorf Photo Weekend 2019. In 2022, she participated in the group exhibition Stepping Stones at GU11. Together with Naomi Rado, she organized the charity project SoliArtAuction – a solidarity art auction where donated artworks by various artists are auctioned to raise funds for humanitarian aid in Ukraine and support local people. On the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of Jewish life in Germany, she participated in the interdisciplinary exhibition project Dance With the Desert with students from UE Berlin and Bezalel University of Arts and Design Jerusalem to promote intercultural exchange. In 2022, she received a DAAD scholarship for a three-month stay in New York City as part of her final project, with which she took part in the group exhibition New Design from Düsseldorf at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf.
In 2023 she showed her photographs in solo exhibitions at Definition of Done in Cologne and at MARS Frankfurt.
